Iowa State Requirements for CNAs

The State of Iowa requires 75 hours of class time, including 30 hours of clinical work. These instructional programs are offered at various approved community colleges across the state. CNAs must then take and successfully pass the CNA competency exams. CNAs must register with the Direct Care Worker Registry in the Division of Health Facilities with the Iowa Department of Inspections & Appeals.

Iowa CNA Exam Details

The Iowa nurse aide test is broke up into two sections, the Nurse Aide Written Test and the Nurse Aide Skills Competency Test. The written exam is a computer-based exam that is 100 multiple choice questions.  The skills exam is a 45 minute exam that covers various aspects of patient care.

The cost of the written portion of the exam is $55.  The cost of the skills portion of the exam is $95.
