How Do I Become a CNA in Oregon?

There are a few requirements for CNAs in Oregon before they can be added to the state registry and begin providing care and getting paid for their services. In Oregon, there are three levels of CNA certification. There is a CNA 1 certification, a CNA 2 certification, and a Certified Medical Assistant certification. A CNA 1 certification is a more standard CNA certification process. Candidates must complete a state-accredited CNA program of at least 75 hours and pass the CNA 1 Examination. CNA 2 candidates must already possess a CNA 1 certification, complete a CNA 2 program and pass a competency exam.

Finally, Certified Medical Assistants must take the following steps:

  • Possess an Oregon CNA certification
  • Must successfully complete an OSBN-approved medication aide training program
  • Pass a national criminal background check
  • Successfully pass the OSBN-approved Medication Aide Competency Examination

Oregon CNA Exam Details

The Oregon Nursing Assistant Test is administered by D & S Diversified Technologies. The test consists of two sections – knowledge and skills. The knowledge section of the exam is 80 questions and must be completed within 90 minutes. To pass, applicants must score at least 73%.

Knowledge areas tested include Safety, Inspection, Control, Data Collection, Patient Rights, and Personal Care.

The skills section of the exam requires the proper demonstration of skills from the following areas:

  • Perineal Care of a Female with Hand Washing
  • Bed Pan & Output with Hand Washing
  • Catheter Care of a Male with Hand Washing
  • Gown and Gloves, Emptying a Urinary Drainage Bag with Hand Washing
  • Perineal Care of a Male with Changing a Soiled Brief with Hand Washing

How Much Does the Oregon CNA Exam Cost?

The cost of the CNA exam in Oregon is $106, and that includes the knowledge and skills tests. If you prefer to take the knowledge test as an oral exam, that costs an additional $35.
