Rhode Island State Requirements for CNAs

In Rhode Island, prior to being eligible to take the certification exam, candidates must undergo 100 hours of classes at a state-approved program. Of these 100 hours, 20 must be in a clinical setting. Candidates may also take the exam if they fall under the following criteria of:

  • Have a registered RN or LPN license
  • Current registration within another state and having possessed at least 3 months of work experience
  • Have completed an equivalent 100 training program in another state, with that program also having a minimum of 20 hours of clinical training.

Rhode Island CNA Exam Details

The Rhode Island Nursing Assistant Test is administered by Credentia and is the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program examination. The test consists of two sections – written and skills. Both sections are taken on the same day. The written section of the exam is 70 questions. The knowledge section consists of the proper demonstration of 5 skills. Candidates have 2 hours to complete the written section, 25 minutes to complete the hands-on knowledge section.
