Tennessee State Requirements for CNAs
In order to be verified on the CNA registry, candidates must have completed their CNA program within the last 24 months. Additionally, candidates may bypass the CNA test and apply to be verified on the CNA registry by providing transcripts by being enrolled in an LPN or RN program. Those that are military medic may also apply to challenge the test.
Candidates may also apply for reciprocity for the CNA registry from all states with the exception of Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina. Candidates from Georgia must provide verification of their status and apply to challenge the test. Individuals from Florida or North Carolina must retrain at a state-approved CNA program and take the test in order to become certified as a CNA in Tennessee.
Tennessee CNA Exam Details
The Tennessee Nursing Assistant Test is administered by D & S Diversified Technologies/Headmaster LLP. The test is consists of two sections – written and skills. The knowledge/oral section of the exam is 75 questions. Candidates will have 90 minutes to complete this knowledge section. The second section is the Skills Test. Candidates will have to complete 5 skills. The first skill will cover hygiene with hand washing. The next four skills will be assigned randomly from skills covered within CNA class sections. The Skills portion of the test will be 30 minutes. Skills that may be tested range from Making an Unoccupied Bed to Feeding the Dependent Resident.
