Indiana State Requirements for CNAs

To become a CNA in Indiana, you must undergo classes to complete a state-approved nurse aide training program. A nurse aide training program in Indiana consists of a minimum of 30 hours of classroom instruction and 75 hours of clinical instruction. Programs in an Indiana program must be approved by Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH). The classroom material is published and is broken up into 30 lessons ranging from Resident Rights to Fire Safety to Activities of Daily Living. The full curriculum is available here for review.

Once the approved nurse aide program is completed, candidates must take and successfully pass the CNA competency evaluation and then get listed on the Indiana Nurse Aide Registry.

Indiana CNA Exam Details

The written portion of the CNA competency evaluation is 100 questions, of which a candidate must successfully answer a minimum of 80 questions correct in a 90 minute time period. You may only take the written test and the skills test on different dates, or you may take the written and skills portion on the same date. More details can be found on the Ivy Tech website.
