Kentucky State Requirements for CNAs
In Kentucky, nurse aides are referred to as State Registered Nurse Aides, or SRNAs. SRNAs must undergo at least 75 hours of state approved nurse aide instructional classes combined with 16 hours of supervised practical learning.
All program classes are administered by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, and it available at the various locations across the state.
Upon completion, candidates must pass the certified nurse aide test. Once the Kentucky state nurse aide test has been passed, candidates will apply to be listed with the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry as a state registered nurse aide, or (SRNA). The registry is regulated by the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
Kentucky CNA Exam Details
The Kentucky nurse aide test consists of a 75 question written section and a clinical test that covers 5 selected tasks. The Kentucky Community and Technical College System publishes a full SRNA exam study guide. Topics that will be tested on include:
- Assisting resident in bladder restraining
- Assisting resident with standing/walking
- Practicing good personal hygiene
- Adjust bed and side rails
- Check food tray against diet list
- Assist with partial bath
- Turn and position resident in bed
