The Mississippi Department of Health Facilitates regulates the Mississippi CNA Registry. The registry is maintained by Pearson Vue that is responsible for supervising the NNAAP (National Nurse Aide Assessment Program) examination in Mississippi. For initial certification, a student must complete the state approved CNA program and submit an application for testing.

CNA Eligibility Routes in Mississippi

An individual can take the following routes to apply to take the NNAAP Examination in Mississippi:

  • Nurse aides who have completed a state-approved CNA program
  • Nurse aides who have trained in facility-based venues in Mississippi
  • Student nurses
  • Graduate nurses
  • Out of state or foreign nurses

Certification Renewal for Mississippi Nurse Aides

Certified nurse aides are sent a renewal notification 60 days prior to the expiration date on their nurse aide certificate. The renewal form is also available on the Pearson Vue website. Nurse aides are eligible for certification renewal if they have performed 8 hours of paid nursing duties during their last 24-month certification period. It is important that nurse aides notify Pearson Vue of any change of address or name to avoid delays.

Reinstatement of a Lapsed Nurse Aide Certificate

Nurse aides whose certificates have lapsed are required to re-take and pass both parts of the NNAAP examination on the first try in order to have their status reactivated on the registry. If the individual fails either part of the examination, the individual will be required to re-train by completing a state-approved CNA program for nurse aides prior to being approved to retake the NNAAP examination.

Application for examination

The CNA schools displayed in this section offer tuition-based programs.

Out-of-state CNA Certification Transfer

The process of reciprocity allows the transfer of a CNA certification from another state to the CNA registry in Mississippi. Eligible applicants must be active and in good standing on their home state registry. Also, they must have been placed on the other state’s registry as per the classes and competency evaluation requirements of OBRA ’87, as amended.
