The Nevada State Board of Nursing regulates the training and certification of Certified Nurse Aides in Nevada. Headmaster LLP has been designated to administer the CNA exam.

First-time CNA Certification in Nevada

In Nevada, you can start your journey to becoming a CNA by completing a state-approved training program for nurse aides. State-approved program entail 75 hours of training with a minimum of 15 hours of direct care provided to residents under nurse supervision. Once you complete training, you are eligible to apply to take the CNA exam (see application form below), which consists of both a knowledge and a skills exam. Once you have successfully completed both parts of the evaluation, your name will be placed on the Nevada CNA Registry. The cost of the exam is $50.Testing is hosted at multiple Headmaster locations in Nevada.

Renewal of Certification for Nevada CNAs

Nurse aide certificates are renewed every 24 months if the holder meets the minimal eligibility requirements for renewal. Candidates can renew their certificates 60 days prior to the expiration date on the certificate. Renewal applications can only be submitted via the online nurse portal, which entails creating an online account. The minimal eligibility criteria for renewal of CNA certification in Nevada are:

  • Completion of 24 hours of CE (continuing education) within the last 24 months;
  • Completion of 40 hours of employment as a CNA in the last 24 months.

Lapsed Nurse Aide Certificate

Nurse aides who fail to renew their certificates due to lack of employment and/or completion of required continuing education cannot reinstate their certificates. They must re-train and re-test in order to reactivate their certification and be legally employable as a CNA in Nevada.

Certification by Endorsement for Out-of-state CNAs

CNAs with an active and in good standing status on the nurse aide registry of another US state can apply for their certification to be transferred to the CNA registry in Nevada if they meet the minimal eligibility criteria, which are:

  • Proof of employment in a registered medical facility for a minimum of 8 hours within the previous 2 years. Acceptable proofs include W-2 form, paycheck stub, or letter from employer.
  • Endorsement application provided by the state of initial CNA certification.
  • Copy of active out-of-state active certificate, featuring the expiration date.
