North Carolina CNA License Lookup & Verification

Below are instructions for how to verify a CNA license number and lookup a CNA license number in North Carolina.

How to verify a North Carolina CNA license number

If you are a current or potential employer of a CNA in North Carolina, you can verify an individual’s nurse aide certification status by searching the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry. You can search by the nurse aide’s name or certification number. The search will tell you if the nurse aide is currently certified and whether their certification is active or inactive.

Verification of CNAs in North Carolina is done through the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Health Care Personnel Registry verification page. You must know the last four digits of the individual’s social security number as well as their first and last name. You can check up to four individuals at a time. You can also add an email address to receive notices of registry status changes for the individual(s) over the next 12 months.

The search result page will contain information on the individual’s CNA license number, the status of their CNA certification, the certification expiration date, and any abuses or notes associated with the certification that may limit the individual’s ability to be employed as a CNA in North Carolina.

For more help on verifications, call the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry’s license verification line at (919) 715-0562.
