Initial certification for nurse aides in the state of Oregon requires the completion of a state-approved nursing assistant level 1 training program followed by passing the competency exam within 2 years of completion the training and within three attempts. The nursing assistant level 1 training programs approved by the Oregon CNA registry consist of 80 hours of classroom training and 75 hours of clinical training. Oregon State Board of Nursing is responsible for the credentialing and training of nurse aides in the state of Oregon. Headmaster has been contracted to administer the competency exam.
How to Become a CNA in Oregon
Candidates who have completed a nursing assistant level-1 training program approved by the CNA registry in Oregon within the last two years must apply to test in order to become certified and have their name placed on the registry. Headmaster Testing Service has been assigned to administer the CNA testing in Oregon. All applicants should review the Candidate Handbook for Oregon before submitting their application.
There are other routes available to become a certified nurse aide in the state of Oregon. Current or recent RN or LPN students may apply to test, as well as candidates trained outside Oregon, Oregon registered nurses and licensed practical nurses, military corpsman or medic training individuals.
Certification Renewal for Oregon Nurse Aides
Nurse aides certified in the state of Oregon whose certificate is still active or has lapsed fewer than 60 days may be eligible to apply for certification renewal. These candidates must fill out an application. Application for certification renewal
Reactivation of an Expired Nurse Aide Certificate

Certification by Endorsement for Out-of-State CNAs
Nurse aides who have never been certified in the state of Oregon but maintain a current and in good standing listing with another US state may be eligible for certification by endorsement in the state of Oregon. If candidates have completed their training more than 24 months prior to their application for endorsement, they are required to have performed a minimum of 400 hours of paid nurse aide services.
